UPDATE: Buffalo Wild Wings’ taco co. to make New Mexico debut

“R Taco’s market entry into NM validates the fact that fast-casuals remain a strong segment of the retail & restaurant market. Having worked with R Taco in identifying sites for their launch, it is evident that while many primary markets nationwide are beginning to see saturation, there is still opportunity in the NM food scene,  from a market share standpoint.”  - Thalia Toha

Buffalo Wild Wings-owned R Taco has started to make its way into the state.

New Mexico doesn't yet have any R Taco restaurants, but by 2021 the state is expected to have four locations.

JJ&D Enterprises signed an initial agreement with the fast-casual taco company to bring four locations to Albuquerque and Las Cruces over a span of four years.

The exact locations and opening dates have yet to be released. The typical R Taco requires between 1,800 to 2,200 square feet, according to spokeswoman Erika Frederick.

R Taco is expected to employ 20 to 30 people at each location, said Frederick.

The franchise group consists of Justin Hall, Jason Bowles and Dylan Kennedy. Hall said in a release he found R Taco when he was in Dallas four years ago and made it a point to stop by the restaurant ever since.

“It was during a visit to Denver that I realized R Taco was a franchise and knew immediately I had to bring this amazing concept to Albuquerque, New Mexico. My partners and I couldn’t be more excited to make this dream a reality," wrote Hall in the release.

R Taco adds to the growing list of new-to-market names that are entering the Duke City – like the Container Store, Crunch Fitness and Blaze Pizza.

Co-founder Rusty Fenton launched the taco joint in Dallas in 2010, calling it Rusty Taco. Five years later, the restaurant, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, changed its named to R Taco. It has 24 locations in seven markets.

For the quarter ending June 25, Minneapolis-based Buffalo Wild Wings posted $500 million in revenue.
